11.29.2004: fall break pics!
Pictures from fall break.

And I'm 18 now. The end :3

9.29.2004: Bath, Bristol, Glastonbury, Stonehenge
I went to Bath, Bristol, Glastonbury, and Stonehenge this weekend with pretty much all of the kids here at NYU in London. We were split up into three buses so I only travelled with about 40 people.

Friday, we left at around 7:30am and drove all the way west to Bath.

I got a teddy bear for my brother-to-be from the English Teddy Bear Company (so cute!!) and some other stuff :3 These are all pictures taken by my friend, btw, because my camera's batteries were shot. I have a couple of pictures that I managed to take before that, but I haven't uploaded them yet :o Anyway, after the day in Bath, we ended up staying at dorms at the University of Bath, which is on a hill overlooking the city. Omg. The rooms were the awesome. The British apparently don't believe in rooming together, so each "flat" was really a hallway with a bunch of singles connected to it and a shared kitchen, but all of the singles had doors that could lock and their own private bathrooms. The desks were the best part, though *o* Actual room for a laptop AND space to work.

That's the friend whose camera took all these pictures... what you can't see is that the desk wraps around until it meets the wardrobe :o

Bathroom... the only bad part was no tub!

View out of the window. Yay, parking lot!

Unfortunately, the service at the bar on campus was shitty as hell. A group of us went to it for dinner because we didn't want to take the bus back into town. So, we walk in and it's sort of busy. The first sign of a problem was when it took forever even to catch the attention of the bar staff. Then, when we ordered drinks, the girl making them had to consult a sheet and then huddle with her coworkers over how to make a Shirley Temple. After that, two of my friends and me wanted to order a pizza to split, so we tried to order it, but they told us that they didn't serve it until 7:30pm, even though the menu said 7:00pm. Ok, whatever. We waited until 7:30 and ordered it and they told us it'd be 20, 25 minutes. A couple minutes later, a whole team of guys (we guessed rugby) walked in and took up something like 4 tables, and at 8pm, they got around 6 pizzas delivered to their tables and we still hadn't gotten ours. Asked the staff what was going on and they told us they weren't sure if our pizza was done yet and that they'd check. Fine. So we wait another 10 minutes. No pizza. We go up and ask again, and then they tell us that they forgot to process our order and that they'd pop a pizza in and it'd be done in 15 minutes. One of the girls asks if we can get free drinks because they messed up so badly, but they refuse and then she's like "we're never coming back here again!" Then, 15 minutes later, we finally get a pizza and they FORGOT THE PEPPERONI. So, we stole some sugar packets and one of the girls opened them all over the table and we ran away XD;;

The next day, we went to Bristol. We, uh, sort of went on a "pirate walking tour" and the guy (who sort of dressed up as a pirate) had one of my friends carry the flag XD; Midway through, it started to rain, so we sheltered in a pub for a while. I had a nice cuppa tea and read the newspaper <3

Bristol Cathedral - we walked in and they were just starting Evensong, so we freaked out and ran out.

The cave that led to the tunnels pirates used when they were really drunk and couldn't walk home overland because they'd get killed.

St. Mary on Redcliff Church

Then it was back to the University of Bath where we found out that there were no other restaurants on campus besides the bar we went to on Friday night... so we took a bus into town where we had a nice dinner at an Italian restaurant <3

Sunday, we went to Glastonbury, supposedly Avalon from the legends of King Arthur

Supposedly King Arthur's tomb
Duck pond on Glastonbury Abbey grounds. I saw a crane, but it flew away.

Then we went to climb the Glastonbury Tor, which is this hill where there's a tower from an old church. It was really really tiring to climb the hill T_T Here's a shot from about 1/4 of the way up @_@ The only good part was that we got to pick blackberries from the bushes by the roadside <3
The tower on the tor from far away
The tower on the tor from slightly closer
The tower when we finally got up the damn hill. The stairs up the final bit were really scary because there weren't any railings and there were dogs running around and I think I might be a bit scared of heights >_<
Scenery~
More scenery, so you can see just how far up we are. It was really fucking windy up there, btw.
Scenery again
Me on a rocking sheep outside a bakery that was cheap and delicious <3 I got a pasty (meat & potato filled pastry thing), a lemon curd tart, a meringue, and a gingerbread man.

Last stop of the trip was Stonehenge!
Stonehenge
Stonehenge
Stonehenge They might look all nice and impressive, but...
It's surrounded by highways now, so it seemed kind of weird. And we weren't allowed to get closer than like 100 yards or something.

So yeah. OH! My roommate and I got all of our travel plans worked out. Now, we've just got to reserve hostels for the first three nights and plan out all the stuff we want to see <3

Fall break itinerary:
Monday, 10/25 - morning train from London-Euston to Glasgow.
Tuesday, 10/26 - morning flight from Glasgow to Paris.
Thursday, 10/28 - morning train from Paris to Cologne, Germany, then an evening train from Cologne to Mainz, Germany where my cousins live. About half an hour from Frankfurt.
Sunday, 10/31 - morning flight from Frankfurt back to London.

Whee, excitement!

9.22.2004: Yay, more pictures!
My uncle from Shanghai sent me a couple of pictures~ These are some of the ones taken at Madame Tussaud's, the wax museum.

Simon Cowell
Buffy
Marilyn Monroe
I'm Queen of the world!!
Beatles

I think I've figured out what I'm going to do for fall break: Go to Frankfurt, Brussels, Paris, and Glasgow or start the other way around. Now, I just need to iron out all the details~

9.8.2004: pictures, as promised
Here's some pictures~ I have a shaky hand, so most of them are kind of crappy, but whatever :D

This is my flat:

the view from my window lovely, innit?

Headed southeast to Guildhall, which is the City of London government seat, I think? :X There was a flower show going on, so I hung around.

I was really stupid and forgot to go to my Intro to Marketing class last night. It has a weird schedule where we meet 3 nights a week on random weeks and I didn't realize this week was one of those weeks! We have a no tolerance absence policy too, so that's 3% down the drain, LOVELY.

9.2.2004: London
Yay, London. Pictures later X3 My bedroom is teenytiny, but my common room is humongous. Nice floor to ceiling windows, a kitchen with a huge fridge, oven, stove, dishwasher, etc, WASHER AND DRIER...

Yeah X3

I flew into Gatwick Airport, took the Thameslink train to Farringdon station, then dragged my two suitcases all the way down Farringdon Road to my dorm. Thank god for the wonderful, WONDERFUL man who carried my suitcases up the stairs at the station. Really. He was my savior. And he even had an adorable little daughter X3

Right. And I sat across from a guy who kind of looked like someone I knew on the train, except cuter in a nerdy way. He had a tennis racket and reminded me of Louis from Shanimuni Go. Weird.

The weather is absolutely fantastic here in London... yay for 70 degree weather and no clouds! Apparently, we just missed all the rain (rock on!)

All I've really done so far is orientation and a little bit of walking around. Nothing touristy yet... still recovering from jet lag and accustoming myself to the ungodful amount of walking I have to do. And no Internet. Pain. Fun is for the weekend! I'll settle for having enough food to live on for today :x And watching loads of British TV. I'm such a sucker for TV.

I've been surrounded by so many people with British accents that I'm starting to think in a British accent o_o;; God knows what that means for my OWN accent... I don't want to be one of those lame people who come back from Europe and start affecting an accent ;o;

My anime... my manga... T_T I wish I had my jump drive on me so I could download some today... But I haven't even turned my computer on yet because I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to plug it in... or even if it'll work. And I need to get a sim card for my cell phone. So many things to do and not enough time to do it! Well, enough time, not enough energy or motivation.

Right! I never did finish typing my little conversation with Memily (I'm just stealing this from her lj):
